Viruses are not living creatures, like bacteria. They are simply RNA (Ribo- Nucleic Acid, or replicating nucleic acid), covered by a thin layer of lipid (fat). These particles can hang out in any surface, and be able to be “activated”, within varying amounts of time. All they need is the proper cellular environment (get inside of you), to start replicating. You cannot kill viruses. You destroy them, by dissolving or destroying the lipid layer. God has provided the immune system, to destroy all foreign invaders, including viruses. What it takes to stay healthy in these times, is to boost your immune system, period! The shame in these times, is that holistic medicine is not appropriately being included, because it is absolutely more effective than anything that is being used or attempted to be used! How is it that we are not employing the best of every discipline??

Viruses have been around, and will continue to stay around, forever. There is NOTHING as effective as the human immune system, to combat any viral disease, even when never before encountered. Vaccines are NOT the answer. If you are willing to move beyond the propaganda that Big Pharma has been pushing for decades, you will start having your eyes opened to what this is all about. Learn to Relax!

When asked: Chill, or Freak Out? Which would you rather? You probably choose chill. Peace, stress free…that’s what we all long for, but not many of you are enjoying that peace or lack of stress in your lives. If you want to enjoy a beautiful, optimally healthy life, full of vibrancy, this ultimately can only come from God. Don’t be fooled though, just having accepted Jesus, calling yourself Christian, or going to church, will NOT bring you peace and calm…full trust in the Lord, and His promises for you, as you diligently seek relationship with Him, spending time with Him, and being willing to obey His direction and Word….AAAAAHHHHH….

But whether you are a Believer already, or not, here are some amazing things that will help you get to enjoy some really awesome relaxation, because God allows ALL people to experience Him through everything He created…all for YOU! For your enjoyment, and to show His love for YOU: that you might wonder how it is that everything goes together so perfectly!

First, let’s define stress: It is the body’s reaction to any change that requires adjustment or response. The responses are physical, mental, and emotional.

You WILL experience stress in life, because that’s what life is all about! HOWEVER, what you need to learn to do is reduce or eliminate TOXIC STRESS!

Toxic Stress effects:
Lowers Immune system
Increases blood sugar levels
Increases Blood Pressure
Destroys nervous system
Impacts the heart and circulatory system
Causes Muscle pain and weakness
Causes Stomach pain and nausea
Intestinal upset, including diarrhea and constipation
Causes wrinkles and skin problems

In short:  toxic stress makes you fat, sick, ages you greatly, and brings on an early death!

Long term toxic stress = long term mental illness (all of us experience mental illness throughout our lives, no different than physical illness or emotional pain and trauma, but that’s another post), cancer, stroke, heart attack, IBS, and all other degenerative diseases (those that develop over time).

Learning to practice how to relax and come back to calm is NOT a luxury, but an absolute necessity! And for long-term optimum health and wellness, simply apply this truth:  EVERYTHING you do, think, see, hear, touch, eat and breathe in…every experience you have, either builds your health up or tears it down.

GREAT NEWS:  YOU are in control of what and how you process stress and even if you end up allowing toxic stress to get to you, you can get right back on track!

Your number one weapon against toxic stress is your mind: become mindful about what you are thinking, and CHOOSE to think about the positive, the good, and what is uplifting. There is Biblical scripture for that, too! What you think about is under your control, and the more you practice thinking positive things, the more your mind will tend towards that.

Relaxation induces/promotes:
Mental, emotional, and physical balance
Lowers stress and all its effects
Lowers anxiety and depression
Lowers BP
Improves concentration and memory
Improves sleep
Enhances Immunity
Increases Creativity and IQ
Hightens spirituality/ deepens faith

You can experience calm, peace and relaxation (or the opposite), through every one of your senses.
Hearing
Sight
Touch
Taste
Smell
Mindfulness (intuition)

Everything has a signature frequency. Calming/relaxing frequencies are higher than tense/stressful frequencies.
For calm, engage Alpha, Theta, and Delta brain waves, with the following:
*Calming music, particularly in the 432 Hz and 528 Hz
*Colors: blue: increases calm, love, honesty, kindness, truth, inner peace, emotional depth and devotion
*Appropriate, meaningful touch:  hugs, massage, even light stroking
*Foods (see particular specifics and types, below and more under “Top Brain and Mental Health Function” blog.
*Aromatherapy: including simple diffusion, application, adding to bath salts, etc…
** Above all, is mind and spirit
Think positive, uplifting and productive, loving thoughts, and learn how to do Biofeedback at home, by concentrating on what it is you want your body to do: slow down heart rate, lower blood pressure, calm, feel cooler, or warmer, reduce pain, work through emotional pain, etc…

Walnuts, Pecans, etc… (Omega 3’s in particular)
Asparagus
Spinach or other dark leafy greens, including dandelion greens
Salmon, sardines, and other fatty salt water fish

Coffee/ Dandy Blend

RECIPES>>>Geri’s Amazing Relaxation goodies:

Juice Plus+ Lemon Coconut Protein Bites
1 Cup JP+ Vanilla Complete
1 cup softened Almond Butter
2 tsp. lemon extract or 2-3 drops YL Lemon essential oil, mixed into honey
1/2 cup Honey
2 tsp lemon rind
1 cup Gluten Free Oats
1 cup finely grated, unsweetened coconut

Mix all ingredients together really well.
Roll into small bites. Optional: roll into coconut flakes.
OR Spread evenly into 8″ x 8″ square pan and sprinkle with coconut.

Dark Chocolate Almond Butter Cookies
1 cup Raw Almond Butter
1/2 cup almond flour
1/3 cup Maple Syrup
1 egg
1 Tbsp Vanilla
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup dark chocolate, broken into pieces at least 70% cacao

Preheat oven to 350
Place all ingredients in food processor and process until smooth.
Chill dough for 20 minutes.
Roll 2 Tbsp of dough into balls and place on parchment lined baking sheet
Bake for 10 minutes
**Geri’s adjustments to basic recipe:
Double recipe, making 3 dz cookies
Use 1/2 Tbsp vanilla and 1/2 Tbsp Almond extract, instead of just vanilla
Add 1/2 cup pecans, coursely chopped pecans into dough
Roll dough in the pecans, before putting on parchment paper
Add a full packet of Stevia
Mix batter by hand
Chill longer, and chill in between batches, or they will stick
3 oz chocolate bar – about 1/2 cup
Leave chocolate in chunky pieces: at least 3 pieces per cookie

Calming Supplements:
Minerals (Young Living Mineral Essence)
Magnesium, in particular
Omega 3’s (Also plentiful in nuts, seeds and fatty fish)
Inulin (in plants, but adding powder adds more calm)
Sulfurzyme, by YL (Precursor to glutathione…next supplement not needed, if you take this one. Available in powder or capsule form)
Liposomal Glutathione

Fast tip to melt away stress: Take Epsom Salt foot or full body baths. Increase effectiveness and enjoyment by adding YL essential oils, 5-7 drops, per handful of Epsom Salts, and add the oils to salts, before throwing into the bath!

True meditation and relaxation brings you to an altered state of awareness, allowing you to tap into your spirit, and allows for personal growth and change. This is also where you can most directly feel and receive the love of God, and His direction for you. Living with peace and calm is a completely different way of operating that is impossible to achieve without daily practices of being good to yourself, engaging your spirit, and ultimately, seeking God!

The Bible teaches to love your neighbor as yourself…most people find it hard to love themselves. But this is part of the calming and peaceful state of being. To love yourself, you need to replace whatever negative self talk you may have been engaging in!

Find some great affirmations that speak to you. One of my favorite affirmation cards are Louise Hay’s “I Can Do It” card set. We also have a long list of “I Am” statements with scripture, which I will post separately). Take your affirmation card or statement, close your eyes, and repeat it slowly and mindfully over and over to yourself.

Find a wonderful guided meditation or simply play beautiful, soothing music, as you are being mindful and review your affirmations in a meaningful way. Apply calming/relaxing YL essential oils to the palms of your hand, activate by rubbing in clockwise motion, apply over wrists, with circular clockwise motion, put your hand over your heart, and apply over it, and over the Vagus nerve, on either side of your throat, up through behind your ears, and down to your shoulders. Then cup your hands over your mouth, gently close your eyes, breathe in deeply through your nose, open up your palms, and breathe deeply out your relaxed mouth. Keep cupping your hands for the inward breath, and opening your hands, for the exhale breath. Gently lie down if you can, or rest your back completely against your chair or couch if you are in a sitting position. Pull your breath in from the very tips of your toes to the crown of your head…in other words, very deep and long, and exhale fully, relaxing more and more into your seat or the floor, with every breath. The more you do this, the more practice you will give your emotional intelligence, and the more calm you engage, the more your body craves and wants to stay in that state. In short, the more you practice calm and relaxation, the more of it you will get to enjoy on a daily basis…in an exponential manner, and it will color your entire perception and response to stress. For those of you who are Christ followers, the more you do this, while calling on His name, the sweeter your devotional time will be with Him. Win-win for everyone!

To come out of the meditative state, slowly concentrate on waking every part of your body up, starting from the tips of your toes in your feet, all the way to the crown of your head. Give yourself a few minutes and make sure you are completely steady, before you try to sit up or get up. Chances are great that you may feel a bit dizzy, sleepy, or lightheaded. Taking a few minutes to revitalize every part of your body will leave you feeling completely refreshed, and either ready to face the day, or ready to head to sleep. The benefits of mindful relaxation and rest, through meditation, and using YL essential oils, are too numerous to list. You don’t have to be perfect at it, just start, and do it regularly…it can completely change you, and change your life!

 

Neuroplasticity and Healing Brain Issues

Why There is Hope for Healing:

The body heals itself, to the most optimum health possible. Optimum health is very individualized.  It is the individual ability for the body to be the very healthiest it can be.  And health is defined by the body’s ability to work exactly as it is supposed to:  where every cell, tissue, organ, and organ system is receiving and processing proper, needed nutrients in order to work, and is detoxifying on a regular basis, of things it doesn’t need, in order for it to work properly.  So the culprit for optimum health is lack of the good stuff the body requires, and too much of the bad stuff the body doesn’t need.  That’s the basics of all wellness and all healing, put in its simplest form.  When it comes to Autism, here are some common threads: accumulation of toxic materials in brain and/or nervous system; lack of specific brain-building nutrients, inability for body to absorb needed nutrients, and society’s wrongful way of trying to address outward Autism behaviors.  Our society has historically tried to eliminate or reduce typically Autistic outward behavior, such as repetitive motions or speech, which is the exact opposite of what it takes to change the way the brain needs to rewire, to achieve healing.

Brain NeuroPlasticity:  The Best News Ever!

Science has discovered that the brain never stops working at making new connections!  For our entire lives, neural pathways are built…whether they build towards better brain function or worse brain function, is entirely up to the individual, and the input being given to and received by the brain.

Positive neural connections are built by:
Positive experiences of all kinds, including, but not limited to:
Relational interactions
Mental thoughts
Affirmations
Music
Appropriate Physical Touch
Color Therapy
Aromatherapy
Hydrotherapy
Spiritual Faith and Prayer

As Part of the Body, Wellness for the Brain Requires:

Specific brain-building foods, including fresh, clean and filtered water, as well as nourishing, uplifting and positive music, relationships, entertainment, school, work and home environments, a solid and positive spiritual faith based on truth, and positive mental and emotional states of mind (which ultimately flow out of what an individual is exposed to positively or negatively, AND how an individual processes things…which by the way, is changeable, due to Neuroplasticity throughout life, no matter the diagnosis).

What the body DOESN’T need is toxicity, in terms of not only man made toxic ingredients found in foods, cosmetics, body care, cleaning, laundry care, and any man made product surrounding you, but also the toxicity of negative music and entertainment, toxic relationships, school, work and home environment, or toxic spiritual beliefs, as well as negative mental and emotional states of mind.  Most, if not all Autistic children deal with heavy metal toxicity and/or other chemical toxicity that has settled in the brain.  All of these are obstacles to building positive neurological networks in the brain!

Therefore, ultimately, the only thing that stands in the way of anyone’s optimum health  is either the lack of what the body needs to get the job done, and/ or the overabundance of toxicity that the body doesn’t need. So lifestyle, which includes your relationships, what you eat, your exercise/movement level, your stress levels (how you choose to deal with these stressors/whether you are taking in and absorbing that stress, or letting it go), how much you sleep and quality of that sleep, and even what you think about, how you process what happens to you, what you focus on, the music you listen to, and the things you choose to watch, as well as your spiritual faith…EVERYTHING that you think, do, apply, breathe in, hear/listen to, eat and drink and believe…EVERYTHING, brings you either closer to your optimum health, or takes you farther away from it!

Again, I cannot stress this enough:  For every person, optimum health is different, but it is about being the healthiest possible, and developing to the fullest potential possible for that person.  With Autism in particular (but honesty, this applies to EVERYTHING), it is most important to be diligent in both nutritional/nourishing excellence and in continuing detoxification!  Remembering that the whole person is body, mind and spirit, and we need nourishment in all three, as well as detoxification in all three!  These three parts cannot be separated.  So suffering in one area will cause suffering of all areas.  The mental, emotional and spiritual portions will be discussed in more detail on separate blog articles.

Optimal health will show in reduction of symptoms and increased overall wellness of ANY health issue, no matter what it is, and that includes ASD.  Nourishing the body, and detoxifying it can have astounding outcomes!

The Nemechek Protocol

God works in such amazing ways! I will spare you the long, gory details, but let me just say, we have been on a long, and harrowing journey, and the healing is not linear, when it comes to the body. So many different pieces have to be in place, and though we had already figured out quite a few along the way, something was still missing. I received a text from a dear friend, who shared the book titled The Nemechek Protocol For Autism and Developmental Disorders A How-To Guide For Restoring Neurological Function, By Dr. Patrick M. Nemechek, D.O.. That was one of the specific missing puzzle pieces for us.

Fact #1: Miracles Do Happen!
God can heal anyone at any time, that’s a fact…but most often, He will connect our lives to others, and we will form a network of love and healing, whereby miracles definitely happen! Without further due, let me share the doctor’s protocol video, and below, I have typed up my notes, which I will add detail to, as I have time, and as we experience and learn more. Let me just say, we are only a few days into it, and WOW!!

The Basics of Health

While you are an absolutely amazing INDIVIDUAL,
the basics of health for everyone are pretty much the same:
Get rid of toxicity, Increase what the body requires
Exercise

Eat Life-giving Food
Hydrate well
Rest

Exercise: The best one for you, is the one you will do! Here are some ideas, just pick something you at least enjoy at some level, and GO FOR IT! Make it at least a 20-30 minute gig.
Walk briskly
Yoga
Zumba (or any high energy dance moves)
Surge Training

For best results, apply Young Living Cool Azul Sports Gel, Spearmint oil, or Peppermint oil, over muscles, before starting…BIG difference! After showering, apply Copaiba oil, for recovery! Hydrate well:
Drink AT LEAST 1/2 your body weight in ounces of FILTERED water, daily!
Example: Weigh 200 lbs, drink 100 ounces of water
Set the right amount aside in a container, and serve your smaller container from that throughout the day. Every single cellular function in your body requires water. It will flush toxins, viruses, germs, cellular trash, and metabolizes fat, amongst hundreds of other benefits! Increase body support? Add any of a number of Young Living citrus or mint essential oils to your water. Make sure to only use glass or stainless steel containers, as oils disintegrate plastics.

Rest:
Experts don’t really agree, but if you sleep somewhere between 7-10 hours a day (depending on your age, and level of health), you should be good to go. Some of you will need a little less, some of you more. Do your best to sleep when it is dark (go to bed no later than 10:30ish). If your body doesn’t enjoy deep, restful sleep, find the root cause and address it. Without addressing insomnia (inability to sleep) or sleep disturbances, your health will suffer greatly long term. Find time to meditate, practice gratitude, and diffuse YL lavender, frankincense, Stress Away essential oils in your bedroom overnight!

Want to Get Rid of Extra Weight?
Stop eating wheat. Do this for 30 days at a time, so you can see the difference.
I don’t like restrictions, but reality is that you’ve added pounds by what you ate. Pull back on the following additional things, and see how great you can look and feel.
Also stop eating:
* Processed foods
* Fast foods, or eating out anywhere
* Sweets
* Artificial sugars: Absolutely NO!
* Sodas
* Inflammatory Foods (see blog entry)
Incorporate all the other things you just read about under “Basics of Health”
Start fasting:
Intermittently…don’t eat past 6pm, or before 10am;
For 3 Full Days, and fast from foods, but not water
You can fast in this way twice a year, or every month!
**(NEVER FAST IF YOU ARE ON MEDICATIONS!!!)

Get Rid of Toxins in Your Home: No matter how many great things you do in every other area, if you do not take care of this, you will not be able to succeed long-term. Toxicity in any environment sabotages all weight management efforts.

Address personal physical, emotional, mental or spiritual blocks:
Physically, if you are struggling with gut issues, parasites, viruses, bacteria, etc, these must be eradicated, before you can achieve healthy fat reduction.
Emotionally, extra weight will keep returning, if you do not release emotional pain
Mentally, toxic stress levels will ensure fat is not released from the body
Spiritually, we are spirit beings trapped in a physical body, if your spirit is not in a good place, your physical body won’t be in a good place either.


21 Days of Fasting & Prayer: Revolutionary Breakthroughs

I’ve gotten so many comments and questions regarding what I might be doing, to look and sound so great, I thought I’d share with everyone, and hopefully you will find your own Breakthroughs this year!

  1. Get the YouVerse Bible App. You can do it alone, but I suggest getting your like-minded support group in on it. We are starting February 1, 2019.
  2. Gather your group of buddies who are ready to experience some breakthroughs, and invite them through the App
  3. If you want the support and direction beyond the Scripture devotional part as well, join the following FB group: “Breakthrough 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting”
  4. Here’s what that group will be doing: 1st 3 days fasting with just water and/or liquids (does not include shakes, but water, juice and/or veggie or bone broths); days 4-6 with just fresh, organic apples and water (or continue with just water and/or liquids only); days 7-21 produce and water only (or you can decide to continue with just water and/or liquids only); Every day: read short devotionals, take time to consider meanings and application in your own life, and discuss with your group in the “Talk it Over” section. If part of the FB group, check in daily, and post your experiences, what you are doing or wondering about, etc…

This is a spiritual journey as much as it is a health and wellness journey! You do not have to be a Christ follower, but if you are, you will enjoy an even closer walk, and a deeper knowledge of Him and yourself. If you are NOT a Christ follower, considering the truths of biblical scriptures will still sow wonderful knowledge and understanding into your heart and soul. Either way, you win! Fasting is SUPER HEALTHY for many reasons we will discuss on FB group, and I will later add to this post.

MCT oil and Cognitive Health

MCT oil does indeed have some amazing properties to address cognitive health.  However, it is a derivative of Coconut oil, which you can now easily purchase at just about any grocery store in the U.S., and at a much lower price.  

I like to get right to the point, as much as possible.  There is a huge amount of information in how and why this works, but if I had to boil it down to one thing it is this:  the brain REQUIRES GOOD FATS (only found in plant foods), for it to work properly.  The closer to intended nature, the better it will be for your brain.

If you understand that Neuroplasticity is the brain rewiring itself CONSTANTLY, using whatever nutrients YOU made available to it, then you can see that adding anything that would help that process WILL have good results!

If you are attempting MCT therapy, I highly suggest Organic, first cold pressed Coconut oil.  You can get it at lowest cost through Costco.  Therapeutic amount is at 2-3 Tablespoons per day.  Simply add to hot beverages, or foods, use as if it were butter on toast, or add to shakes!  If you want to surprise yourself, and are doing this to help a loved one, ask them to do a simple task of drawing or writing something, then ask them to do that same task after one week of the consistent oil use, and then at different intervals afterwards.  If you want further cognitive help resources, please see my other posts on “Top Brain and Mental Health Resources”, and “Our ASD story”.

Anti-Inflammatory Golden Milk Tea

Golden Milk Tea has been shown to greatly help reduce inflammation of the gut.  It also has been reported to help people sleep better, as an added benefit!  If you are dealing with any kind of sleep or digestive disturbances, this will be a great therapy to add to your daily routine, at least right before bed, and might even want to sneak in an additional serving in the morning, or sometime throughout the day!

You can make this 5 days ahead, storing in airtight container in fridge, then warm right before serving!  Recipe makes two 1/2 cup servings.

Ingredients:
1 Cup Unsweetened coconut milk
1-1/2 inch piece Turmeric root, unpeeled, thinly sliced, or 1/4 tsp dried turmeric
1/2 tsp Organic, raw and unfiltered honey (Manuka is best)
1 drop YL Vitality Cinnamon Bark essential oil
1 drop YL Vitality Ginger essential oil; or 1 small piece (1/4 inch) unpeeled, thinly sliced ginger root, or 1/8 tsp dried ginger
1 drop YL Vitality Cardamom essential oil; or a dash of cardamom powder
1 drop YL Vitality Black Pepper essential oil; or dash of freshly cracked black pepper
**This recipe is best made and enjoyed with essential oils

Preparation:
In small saucepan whisk Coconut milk, and turmeric together.  If using root or dried ginger, cinnamon and cardamom, add all of those at this point as well.  If using essential oils, do not add those until after removing from heat!
Bring to a low boil, reduce heat and simmer for about 7-10 minutes.
Turn off and remove from heat.
Strain with fine mesh (or drink up with all the powders and roots)
Stir in honey and drop in all essential oils, at this point.
Divide into two servings.
Drink warm, preferably before going to bed, but can also drink at any time of the day.
Adjust amount of each ingredient to your taste.

Great Sleep Can Be Yours!

Let’s get right to it:  if you are missing out on really great, deep, restorative sleep, it’s not because of lack of sleeping pills.  There’s a cause.  As always, find the root cause, and you will be able to have your body work properly.

Rather than make you read a bunch of unnecessary information, here’s what you can do to get great sleep:
*Get Night Shift for your electronics.  In short, having bright blue light entering your eyes after the sun goes down, destroys your body’s ability to sync for sleep.  Even better, get off all electronics when the sun goes down, and pick up some books!
*Get off all electronics at least one hour before going to bed.
*Stop watching the news, or anything that upsets you…test it…go 40 days without watching the news…if it’s bad enough news, someone will tell you…but honestly, we were not created to carry or
*If you are a Christ-follower, or if you would like to explore meaning beyond self, there’s nothing better than seeking hard after God, and no better time to do so than right before going to sleep!  Not only does God’s Word bring healing to heart, mind and soul, but whatever you take in right before going to bed, is processed in your mind as you sleep…it is in sleep that God’s Word does the healing and the sealing.
*And/Or, find subjects that make your heart sing, or that interest you, and READ and contemplate those, before heading for sleep.
*Diffuse Young Living Lavender, Stress Away, or other relaxing essential oils…it adds an additional level of relaxation.
*Apply Young Living relaxation oils under the bottoms of the feet.
*Hit your pillow, lights out, and eyes closed no later than 11pm, for best sleep.

As with anything else, your quality of sleep is directly tied to your lifestyle, or choices.  Everything, including the state of your spiritual life, will affect your sleep…when I say everything, I mean absolutely everything:  if you are thinking about it, reading it, looking at it, tasting it, applying it on your skin, breathing it in, drinking it…if it touches you in any way, it will either help you get better sleep, or draw you further away from sleep.

Great sleep is yet another side benefit of experiencing wellness.

What are YOU Here For???

…A question just about everyone has or will ask themselves…it is one of the highest questions one must answer, for so much is riding on the answers you believe to be true about this question!

Eternity hangs on the balance, true, but if you aren’t into waiting for the pie in the sky (as many people are), then I submit to you, that God is working in and through you, in order to prepare you and have you change in the here and now…so, have Steak on the Plate, while you wait!

Whether you are a Christ follower already, or not, this article is for YOU! God gives us family and friends, as well as allows situations to happen, in order to change our inner being, and to change our outward actions. He’s doing it to draw YOU to Himself. Whether you know it or not, you are being tested and refined. Some of you are taking way longer than you need to, on the same issues! Are you prone to… depression?(outward things getting you down) anger? (reactions of it or rage) hopelessness? (the go to of being ready to give up) rebellion? (not being willing to take on the assignment God has for you) anxiety? (being unwilling to surrender to what God is putting you through)…Which is YOUR go to? It’s an indication of what needs to change!

And what needs to change is YOU! I’m not off the hook here…what needs to change is ALL of us!! God is forming a most intricate and amazing quilt, by weaving the lives of people together. Your children, your parents, your spouse, your friends, and all people that come in contact with you…every single one of them are there to change you, and refine you, for one purpose only: to glorify God!

So you have people in your life that “make you mad”, or situations that “make you feel anxious”, or constant issues that cause you to want to give up or rebel? It’s NOT the other person’s fault! You aren’t reactively angry, or depressed or anxious or hopeless or rebellious because your child, spouse, friend, stranger has done or said something…you are reactively living in that place because of YOU! And you are going to continue getting and seeing those same things play out in your life, until and unless you get to a place where you actually lay down your life…your own ways, to pick up those of Christ. However, you will have to do the hard work of getting to the root cause of your go to behaviors!

You won’t get this, if you aren’t already a Christ follower: that’s OK, my only prayer for you is that you will continue to seek and ask to find truth, because God WILL show it to you! For those of you who are Christ followers, please understand what an amazingly huge key this is in your life!! You are to be a light to others…different from the rest of the world, for one purpose only: to show Jesus to the world! This means ESPECIALLY amongst those who know you best! YOU are the testimonial that Jesus is real…so, IS HE TO YOU??? Are you worshiping Him, or without realizing, worshiping something of the world? Could you have been processing things from a worldly perspective, without realizing it? Do things of this world trap you? Many Christians will have a gut, churchy answer: “Of course not!” Really? Do you put cares and emotional expense in money? or education? or cleanliness? or secular grading practices of any kind? (your children’s grades, or your own grades in school, how and who moves up at work, how your kids act in front of others, how a friend or a spouse compares to someone else, how people see or judge your work, etc…). Does your own performance or your spouse’s or your children’s in these areas cause a negative emotional reaction in you? While there is nothing inherently wrong with “looking good”, there is something very wrong with having those things define your actions and your words to yourself and to others! God doesn’t care one wit about these things…yet we allow these things to destroy our testimony to those closest to us…and guess who is leading the way on that? Our Enemy, Satan!!

He loves nothing more than to put you in a place of anything but joy…so that God cannot be glorified in your actions or words. It’s as simple as that. And if you seek to please the Lord, and be a light to others, including your children, spouse, family, friends, and even strangers, please remember this: it doesn’t matter what beautiful and correct words you speak in sharing Biblical quotes, or how vast a knowledge you have stored in your understanding, it only matters what is visible to others…your attitudes, your actions, your reactions, and your responses.

You can talk a good God talk all day long, but in the end, if you receive word of something that you don’t like, no matter what it is, or if you see something you don’t like, no matter what it is, and you do not react or respond in love, you are not being Christ to others, you are not showing mercy and grace, and you are not glorifying Him in any way.

The good news is: it’s all up to YOU, and whether you are willing to surrender to God’s ways, or keep turning to the same ways that have tripped you up, and wasted your time with anything negative…yep, if it isn’t love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control, you’ve not shown Christ, and you’ve been unknowingly following the ways of the World and of your enemy, who as John 10:10 shows, “…comes only to kill, steal, and destroy”…you, and those you come in contact with! The one thing that you MUST know about this, is that even though it is all up to you, YOU must do the hard work of getting rid of the root cause of your negative go to actions and words…that will be my next blog!

Until then, friends…as soon as you feel stress or negative stuff come bubbling up, if you are a Christ follower, take a time out, and seek Him, BEFORE you tear into the person or the issue…it’s probably not even worth getting bent out of shape! It’s a test! And the only way to pass it, is to choose Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control. You really need to keep saying that to yourself…this is what separates human action and reaction from a godly one!

BTW, if you are that person who sits there and says, “yeah, but, there’s nothing wrong with …, and there is a time and place for everything” my questions to you are these: how does your BUT fit into the fruit of the Spirit, and how has it served you in any way before? And, in what way is your stress or anger towards that which God deems important? (Righteous anger is only that dealing with issues that God hates, not issues of personal comfort or personal preferences). Remember, you can present ANYTHING and deal with ANYTHING negative, in a loving, joyful, peaceful, patient, kind, good, faithful, gentle and self-controlled manner…if that’s not happening, that’s NOT showing Christ in you, and that’s NOT glorifying Him whom you serve! And saying mean, hurtful, judgmental or upsetting words or showing disapproval or displeasure by gritting your teeth, and saying it in a seemingly “controlled manner”, does not cut it as fitting into any of the fruit of the spirit categories…not even self-control.

You know you are glorifying God most, when things are not going your way, yet your go to is the fruit of the spirit. That is the joy of the Lord manifested in the here and now…Steak on the Plate, while you wait…and for those not Christ followers, do not let other’s actions who claim to be Believers trip you up…seek God yourself…He will reveal Himself to YOU…He will make your path straight…YOUR personal walk with Him will be one of the greatest adventures you will ever be on in this life, and the next!!
